Rheem Water Heater – They’re Hard To Beat!

RHEEM LOGO

RHEEM WATER HEATER – A NZ FAVOURITE! For many years people have been installing the Rheem water heater. Rheem water heaters and hot water cylinders are very common through out Auckland. Every day we change a number of Rheem hot water systems, pulling out old Rheem hot water cylinders that have sometimes been installed since the 60’s. The quality of the Rheem water heater is phenomenal. Of course all the old ones we pull out are just low pressure and basic, but it is still a testament to the quality. WHAT RHEEM WATER HEATER IS MOST COMMONLY INSTALLED NOW Of course with the demands and need for high pressure times have change. Not only people want high pressure but also endless hot water. Not everyone is fussed about having a gas Rheem hot water heater, and some people still prefer electric. For some people gas gives them funny feelings. Hey’ that’s all good. No problem, there is heaps of options in gas hot water heaters, and electric. The most common by far is the Rheem Integrity. This is the continuous flow gas hot water heater. Never ending hot water, high pressure, and pretty sleek. They just fit on the outside wall so you also gain a precious cupboard back. THE BENEFITS OF A RHEEM INTEGRITY – RHEEM WATER HEATER Endless hot water High pressure Strong hot showers Very efficient Available for LPG and Natural Gas Free up space in your home We find almost 80% of the time now that we fit the Rheem Integrity – Rheem water heater. Why, they tick the most boxes most of the time. Take a middle aged couple. All the kids have left home, and there is now just 2 people living in a huge home in Auckland. Do they need a 300 litre electric cylinder. Of course not, they are at work most of the time, travel a lot, and mostly the hot water is wasted. Possibly one of them even shower at the gym. However come Waitangi weekend, 2 kids come home with their partners, one has 3 kids. There is now 9 people for a shower over the weekend. Maybe they need 500 litres. Well the Rheem Integrity will heat 500 litres if that’s what is required. No need to wait for a cold electric cylinder. Just pile in one after the other, no problem. Come the following week. The kids and grand kids all vacate, and you’re just heating enough water for ma and pa again. Perfect solution for almost every big old house in Auckland that has just a couple living in it most of the time. THE SECOND MOST POPULAR RHEEM WATER HEATER The 180 litre mains pressure hot water cylinder is still very poular. Why, because they are the most cost effective way of getting mains pressure hot water in almost every case. For many money upfront can be tough. The downside is you will still sometimes run out of hot water. In saying that, for most this Rheem water heater will do exactly what you want it to. And probably 95% of the time. We still install a lot of these in homes that already have one and we are just replacing it. Also for people with a low pressure cylinder that just wish to upgrade to electric mains pressure. They will choose one of these to save money, or possibly because gas scares them. OTHER RHEEM WATER HEATERS LOW PRESSURE RHEEM WATER HEATER OR LOW PRESSURE HOT WATER CYLINDER Day after day we are called to replace leaking hot water cylinders. Many will be Rheem 135 litre low pressure hot water cylinders. These are fitted in a stack of rental properties across Auckland. They are also fitted in a good number of older homes where old people still occupy them. Most young people remove them and upgrade to mains pressure. Are they still good? Well, they heat hot water, and you can get wet in the shower, but that’s all. Most landlords will refit them as they are cheap. They actually work OK if you use an old style Felton shower set. So, yes they work, but depends what you want in a shower, and if you want pressure in the kitchen. If you just want a cheap replacement hot water cylinder, you can get one here… [CLICK HERE] GAS STORAGE RHEEM WATER HEATER These were never installed in mass or super popular, however there’s a few out there, and they do get replaced from time to time. As always, they will not last for ever either. Some areas of Auckland have more than others, but if you do have them, there is 2 basic options for gas storage hot water cylinders. Rheem Stellar – Rheem Water Heater – Replaces the old Vulcan Freeloader Or, if you have a Rheem indoor gas storage cylinder, as the one pictured below, you can replace it with the new model of the same thing. Gas Hot Water Heater With Endless Hot Water

gas rheem continuous flow hot water system

Are you just over running out of hot water, every time you wish to take a shower? Have you heard all the hype about the continuous flow gas hot water heater? If you want to never run out of hot water again – this is what you need. TREAT YOURSELF TO AN ENDLESS GAS HOT WATER HEATER Maybe you have heard lots about the Rinnai Infinity, the Rheem Integrity, and the Bosch units. Maybe you have not and want to find out more about these has hot water heaters. Hopefully this blog will help you, in your search of finding a solution to endless hot water. WHAT ACTUALLY IS A CONTINUOUS FLOW GAS HOT WATER HEATER? A continuous flow gas hot water heater, works similarly to other water heaters with one exception – there is no large storage tank. When a hot water tap is turned on, cold water travels through a pipe into the unit. The gas burner heats the water. As a result, the gas hot water heater will deliver a constant supply of hot water. You don’t need to wait for a storage tank to fill up with enough hot water.   The only downfall for most people is that the continuous flow gas hot water heater has a limited flow rate, meaning that in some situations you can get fluctuations when multiple hot taps are used at one time. It is not the end of the world, but can be frustrating if you were never informed about it prior to making the decision to get a new Gas Hot Water Heater fitted in your home. Also as they are normally fitted on the exterior of the house, if you have a long run of pipe to a particular tap, you can experience significant delays waiting for hot water each time you use the tap. Be sure to put the unit as close to the kitchen as possible for a most satisfactory results. The kitchen you use multiple times a day, so a big delay can be awful.   Fitting multiple units can overcome the lag of hot water and fluctuations to certain fixtures, or taps along way from the gas hot water heater itself, however every home is different and it pays to talk to an expert for getting the right location for installation.   When looking at installing or replacing your old hot water cylinder, a continuous flow gas hot water heater is a great option to consider.     WHY WOULD YOU CHOOSE A GAS HOT WATER HEATER? Are they as good as people say they are? Based on our findings of over 20 years of installing Gas Hot Water Heaters at Regency Plumbing – these are the real benefits. Endless hot water Strong hot showers Increased water pressure Free up space in your home Efficient hot water heating WOULD I RECOMMEND YOU INSTALL A GAS HOT WATER HEATER? For sure I would. In most cases they are fantastic. There are a couple of types of installations where I would not recommend them, but there are many I would.   When you consider family homes, the baby boomers big homes that just have 2 people in them. They are using only a fraction of the hot water they once used. Of course they are great for them. When you are home you have hot water, but when you are at work, or on holiday they are using no energy at all. But come the long weekend and 10 people turn up for a family catch up, there is endless hot water for everyone.   WHAT A CUSTOMER SAID ABOUT HER NEW GAS HOT WATER HEATER We fitted a new gas hot water heater for Kavita in Botany and this is what she had to say, actually it was a Rheem continuous flow gas hot water heater… “The special offers at the home show in addition to the information on benefits of gas water heating prompted us to use Regency plumbing. Cloudy Hot Water – What Causes It?

CLOUDY HOT WATER

Many people ask… Why do I have Cloudy Hot Water? CLOUDY HOT WATER Of course nobody wants to cook or wash dishes using cloudy hot water or milky looking water. The good news is that the problem is usually minor and free of health risks. WHAT CAUSES CLOUDY HOT WATER, AND HOW TO GET RID OF IT? Water is an interesting substance. Made from two gasses (hydrogen and oxygen), it expands when turned into either a solid or gaseous (steam) state. Not only do minerals become trapped in water, but a wide range of gasses can also be trapped. These tiny air bubbles are the primary reason your water is white or cloudy as it comes out of the tap. As your water heater runs, the molecules in the water expand and trap any other gasses due to pressure. Think of how a bottle of soda holds onto carbonation. When hot tap water is drawn, it’s the same effect as opening that soda. The sudden reduction in pressure allows gas to separate itself and float to the top of your glass or pot, then escape into the air. You can watch this process in action in a clear glass – the water will clear from the bottom up. CAN OR SHOULD YOU EXPECT HOT WATER AFTER THE PLUMBER HAS BEEN? The answer is yes. As the plumber will often turn off the water, open up lines, make repairs, and then turn the water back on again. Air can be trapped in the lines, and as it escapes for a period of days or even weeks sometimes you can find you still get a bit of cloudy hot water. As noted above though it is not harmful to you, just not so appealing to look at when you see it in a clear glass or pot.
