Which kitchen tap is best for you?
Choosing a sink mixer doesn’t need to be difficult, however there are a few considerations to make and hopefully these tips might help you.
- Do you have a mains pressure or low pressure hot water system? If you have mains pressure, any tap will work, but if you have low pressure, many wont, and you’ll need to be sure to buy an all pressure mixer tap, or one suitable for operating around 35kPa.
- What size sink do you have… if you have a very small sink, then a mixer tap with a long reaching spout could be a real pain. You end up getting wet every time you try to do the dishes.
- If you have a very old kitchen with just (2) taps, a hot and a cold tap which are separate, then upgrading to a faucet will be the best option most likely. A mixer will generally be very difficult to upgrade to without fitting a new sink bench as access to the pipes is often challenging.
- If you aren’t on a tight budget a pull out spray option if amazing. Once you’ve had a pull out spray type high spout goose neck mixer, you’ll never go back.

Choosing taps for your shower
Choosing a shower mixer can be more complex as there is a lot to consider. Below are a few considerations you need to make.
- Do you have a mains pressure or low pressure hot water system? If you have mains pressure, any tap will work, but if you have low pressure, many wont, and you’ll need to be sure to buy an all pressure mixer tap, or one suitable for operating around 35kPa.
- If you have an old low pressure mixer now, you’ll need to check and see if it is equal pressure, or unequal pressure.
- If you have an old Felton mixer, the options are limited when it comes to upgrading.
- If you have an old set up and everything is in the wrong place for a new set up, you can fit a boobie plate, or dunny stainless steel plate. Check out the pictures attached. It may look like a compromise, and it is, however if funds are tight this might be the answer for you.
- Height is critical for shower slide sets. Often people fit them too low. It all depends on the height of the customer, however there’s nothing worse than a shower you cant get under.
- If you have low pressure hot water, the Halo slide shower pictured with a donut look, (a hole in the middle) is one of the best available to try and get a reasonable shower.
